Bad Reaction To Pool Water - Allergic To Chlorine?
From www.swimmingpoolsteve.com/pages/pool-blog.html this video talks about a very common situation where a swimmer has a poor reaction after swimming which they attribute to being a sensitivity to chlorine. While this could be possible, it would be extremely rare and it is recommended that you test the water for pH and combined chlorine (at the bare minimum) to make sure the water is actually within a comfortable and tolerable range for swimmers.

    I don't think my iAquaLink status output is accurate. It said at 3450 RPM I was using 40705 Watts, or more than 40 kW. This is with a 2" return line and a spa not that far away, about 50 feet. At 3110 RPM, 19 kW, at 2350, 709 Watts, at 1500, 153 Watts, and at 750, 40 Watts. So I'll be running it at 750 of course, since that turns about 38 GPM, so I can turn my 1575 gallon spa 3 times in 2 hours.

    Let me take this opportunity to reconfirm, I always keep Total Alkalinity 60-80, PH at 7.5-7.8, and Free Chlorine at 3-6. Does all that sound reasonable, tested with Taylor kit by the way. Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge on a regular basis. I am positive you have helped many immensely!!

    • @generessler6282
      @generessler6282 День тому

      To answer that Steve needs also to know the CYA level. More CYA requires more chlorine. If CYA is 40, FC of 3 is absolutely risking an algae bloom.

    • @Peter-Alexander
      @Peter-Alexander День тому

      @@generessler6282 CYA 40 and FC 3 would be 7.5% ratio and that is fine. I think even with 5% little chance of algae, but better be on the safe side of 7.5% or a bit more. But definitely, I agree testing CYA is important.

    • @user-hs7ez3ht5g
      @user-hs7ez3ht5g 23 години тому

      Alkalinity is low. 80-120 ideal. You are losing out on 1-3 days of ph stability. I can add acid and if it shoots up 2/10 ph a day I know the alkalinity is under 80. It won’t hold and it’s just losing money. Free chlorine of 3 is fine but 6 is just wasting money. Ph affects the chlorine. At 7.4 you get 50% hypochlorous acid and 50% hypochlorite ion. 7.6 = 40% and 60%. 7.8 = 30% and 70%. The hypochlorous acid is a more affective cleaner then the hypochlorite ion. 7.2 = 63% and 37%. It’s the better cleaning potential but your probably paying too much in acid to maintain that so it’s not ideal.

    Here bc I NEED to do my own. I'm not upset about pricing, heck paying somebody else to do it was technically cheaper. But our pool guys either 1) took on too many clients too fast. Or 2) just didn't really care to show up on time. We tried for a whole year to lock down a schedule with them (with a 4 hour window, half a work day) , every day of the week from first thing in the morning, all the way to being their last call .. still they always showed up when we had finally given up and started our own lives for the day. There at the end they'd show up while we were actively cooking or eating dinner. It's another chore on my list but the math is simple... If I wait on them for 4 hours(the time window we agreed to, and they set/asked for) + 2 (the extra time after we would wait) = 6. 6 hours. Doing it myself, 15 mins a day brushing 2× a week, and an hour (maybe) testing the water, clearing the debris from baskets and adding chemicals... It's a no brainer. Add on top of that the cost of the pump they were bound to burn out since they continually forgot to lube the ring when replacing the basket cap. It's frustrating to say the least. Thank you for making it possible, I really thought I was about to have to learn a whole new trade just to keep this pool open for my mother's daily physical therapy.
